Art Show Entry Requirements

Learning Objectives: The juried art show will afford the artists with the opportunity to create a visual reflection expressing how color and imagery are used to provide a safe, compassionate environment that allows individuals to connect either personally or universally during turbulent times. The artwork should reflect how this theme has impacted the artist themselves or through their experience working as an art therapist.

Any medium including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, collage, assemblage, as long as he work pertains to your experience is welcome.

Eligibility: All Art Therapists/Art Therapy students who are NYATA Members are eligible to participate in the CALL FOR ART. You may join the organization at the time of submission.  Inclusion is first come, first serve. Space is limited!

CEUs: * LCAT’s can earn 2 CE’s for Art Show Participation and 10 for BC’s* LCAT’s can earn 2 CE’s for Art Show Participation and 10 for BC’s* 1 CE’s for Art Experiential which will take place at SJJCC (One CAN participate in art show only or attend General meeting and participate in art experiential.

Requirements: Maximum of 2 pieces submitted. If more than two pieces are submitted, only the first two will be considered. Work must be framed and ready to hang. Maximum size restriction 48″ x 60″ (framed), weight 10 lbs (framed.) Pieces larger than 36″x48″ must be dropped off directly at Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center Saturday, September 9th, 2017. Drop off information will be provided at time of Notice of Acceptance.

Fees: Entry fee of $30 will cover the submission of up to 2 entries, ENTRY FEE MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN August 7th, 2017. NO SUBMISSION WILL BE SENT TO THE JURORS WITHOUT A PAID ENTRY FEE. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS. You will receive e-mail confirmation upon receipt of your entry fee. Payment via check or money orders along with attached entry form should be made payable to “New York Art Therapy Association” and mailed to:

Submission deadline: Monday, August 7th, 2017 8:00PM

Art work may be submitted as a JPEG via email to NYATAinformation@gmail.com. Submission email subject line contains “Art Show 2017” and your name. You will receive e-mail confirmation upon receipt of your submission.

Artist’s Statement: Your artist’s statement must accompany artwork at the time of submission. Please keep statement to less than 200 words. This description may be displayed during the opening reception. Art work will not be submitted to the jurors without an accompanying artist’s statement. Art Work Drop Off: Once accepted: There will be drop off locations on Long Island, Manhattan, Queens and Westchester. Drop off information will be provided at the time of Notification of Acceptance. All work must be dropped off no later than Friday, September 8th, 2017. Liability: All possible care will be taken to ensure the safety of work but we cannot bear liability for the loss or damage of any artwork. Insurance is the responsibility of each artist.

Tracy Arnold Warzer, MA, ATR-BC, LCAT is a NYS Licensed Art Therapist, and Director of Community Programs at The Amsterdam at Harborside, an innovative Senior Life Care community in Port Washington, NY where she has developed art therapy and creative aging programs. Additionally she is the founder and Director of The Creative Arts Studio of Sea Cliff, a community-based expressive arts and performance space since 2005. She has served as an arts specialist and projects-based consultant to the Sid Jacobson JCC over a span of 35 years.

Tracy is also a mixed media artist who combines various printing, drawing and painting techniques with found objects. Her desire is to evoke an inner landscape through a variety of media and explore the transformative power of art through symbolic visual elements, patterns in nature and the rhythms of sound.

Elyse A. Miller, MA, LCAT, ATR-BC, ATCS, BCPC, CLL, is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University, in the Creative Arts Therapy Graduate Program and taught at Bramson Ort College. She is currently on the Hofstra University Senate representing the Adjunct Faculty. She has worked at Sid Jacobson JCC, as the Director of Youth Services and Co-Director of Summer Streeters Day Camp. Ms. Miller is part of the leadership team and the Inclusion Director with Buckley Day Camp. Elyse is also on staff at Shelter Rock Jewish Center ECC.

She has worked in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychiatric Rehabilitation in the Northwell Health System. Ms. Miller has published on the topic of Creative Arts Therapy and Hope as well as wrote and published a workbook for those who are currently studying for the Art Therapy boards exam. Currently, she maintains a private practice as well speaks on many topics to schools districts, businesses and camps for staff development.

Dr. Joan Bloomgarden, PhD, LCAT, ATR-BC,MHC, enjoys a long career as a full time-faculty member in Hofstra’s Creative Arts Therapy program.  Prior to her present position as Program Director, Associate Professor, Internship Placement Facilitator and other positions at Hofstra she taught elementary school and art education holding NYS licenses in both professions as well as a license in Mental Health Counseling.   Dr. Bloomgarden had a prominent role in facilitating Hofstra’s approval by N Y State as a license- qualifying program.  She wrote many of the CAT syllabi and forged to expand the elective course work in dance, poetry, music, drama and play therapy.  Dr. Bloomgarden has presented nationally and internationally publishing in various venues.  Additionally, she has contributed by serving on the Art Therapy Credentials Board, the Ethics Committee of the American Art Therapy Association and the Editorial Review board of the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association.  Dr. Bloomgarden’s research and writings support qualitative inquiry that highlights social and personal interactions, relationships and human experience.  This research style developed during her PhD education in professional psychology.
